How to get a job

I'm only a Sophomore, but I'm starting to feel the pressure of needing to decide what major I'll choose by the end of the year in order to get a good job. Some of my older friends say it doesn't matter what I choose while others think it's very important (as well as my parents!) Are there any alumni or seniors who could help relieve this stress or let me know what their experiences have been with majors and jobs?

The age old question about jobs and majors. Definitely an important one. With my personal experience, I'm in Trinity and I knew I wasn't going to be an investment banker so I felt like I had a lot of flexibility with my major. For me it was more important to take classes that were more like seminars so I chose a smaller major that was interdisciplinary and absolutely loved it. Currently, I'm working in consulting and my major has never been in issue in interviews. I will say though, if you want to go into financial fields (financial consulting, I banking, maybe even some business areas) I'd definitely be an econ major. If that's not your thing, pick something where you really enjoy the classes (it will not only boost your GPA but also help you get to know professors well). What I found out is that it's one's ability to network more so than one's major that really decides who gets the job.
